World Hunger Year (WHY) invites you to be a part of a special evening honoring five exceptional individuals who have demonstrated dedication to finding solutions to hunger and poverty. The WHY-Chapin Awards Dinner will be held on May 3, 2004 at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City. Senator Patrick Leahy is serving as honorary chair of the event, and Tom Chapin will be the eveningšs emcee.
This year's WHY-Chapin Award honorees are:
Carla Sanger, Executive Director of LA's BEST (Better Educated Students for Tomorrow), an after school program that affects the lives of more than 20,000 children and which has been replicated in several California cities;
Bruce Morrow, WCBS-FM DJ and activist;
John E. Potter, U.S. Postmaster General and
William H. Young, President of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
The ASCAP-Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award will be presented to Emmylou Harris.
